I like to take precaution before i lose my phone and that is why i am asking beforehand, about how i could possibly recover my lost phone, just in case i lose it. What are the things i need to have in place in my phone, such as what apps should i install to be able to find my lost phone and whether i need to have my mobile data turned on? I have seen and heard many cases wherein people who aren't tech savvy didn't know what to do when they lose their phone. I believe with a bit of knowledge and caution we could recover our lost phone.

In order to properly locate your lost Samsung Note 5 phone, you need to have several things in place before you lost your Samsung Note 5 phone. Your lost phone should already have mobile data turned "ON". This is important because it will allow you to track and locate the location of your mobile phone only if this mobile data is turned on. Otherwise you will only get the last known location of the lost phone.

You will also need to know the gmail account that you used in setting up your Samsung Note 5, the first time you setup your new phone. If you have another Samsung android phone, or you can borrow someone's Samsung smart phone to locate your own lost phone. You can install Samsung Find my Mobile app from the google play store or you can install Android device manager both on the other phone which you are holding now. If you can't get hold of another phone to use to locate your lost phone then you can use a desktop computer to locate your lost phone.

1. Mobile App method:

Install samsung find my mobile app or Android device manager from Google play store.

Open that app and enter your gmail email address and password. This email and password should preferably be the same as the lost phone had it. Once logged in, you can "Ring" the phone, "Lock" the phone or "Erase" the phone if you believe that someone else got your phone and won't be returning it to you.

"Ring" option is only for if you believe that your phone is somewhere in the house or nearby and it is just that you can't remember where you kept it. Phone will ring for five minutes even if set to silent mode.

"Lock" option is for If you don't want others to be able to access your lost phone content. This will leave anyone who finds your device a message or a phone number where you can be reached.

"Erase" option is for if you believe that your phone is lost and you won't be able to get it back permanently, then you can erase everything inside the phone content. All data will be permanently erased from this device. If your device is offline, erasing will begin when it next comes online. You'll need to sign in to your Google Account to use the device again.

2. Desktop computer method:

You can follow the link below to open android find my device page:

Google find my device Services

Once you are logged in, you will have the same choices as mentioned above.

To use Find My Device, a lost Android Phone must:

1. Be turned on.
2. Be signed in to a Google Account
3. Be connected to mobile data or WIFI.
4. Be visible on Google Play.
5. Have location turned on.
6. Have Find My Device turned on.

All these conditions should be met before the phone is lost. If one or more of the above mentioned condition is not met, there is the probable chance of not able to successfully track your lost device.
