What happens when a bullet is fired into the sky? Will it fall down after sometime and hit the ground?

I have always been fascinated by how things work in the world we live in. Many people are just not aware of all the miracles and wonders happening around them all the time. The force of gravity, the behaviour of electrons, the laws of physics, the power of steam, the power of wind and sun, the power of water, the birth of a baby human or animals or birds, the cycles of seasons, the might of a volcanoes, these are all works of miracles and powerful nature.

I love mysterious stuff and what amaze me may not be the case for other people. Everyone has got their own likes and dislikes, hobbies, habits and behaviour traits. One thing that amazes me is how fast the bullet can travel from a gun barrel. At times, when I watch the games in track and field running, when the linesman fired a shot into the air to signal the start of the race, I wonder what actually happens to the bullet fired into the air. Won't it fall down and kill someone or hurt someone striking down from the sky?

According to laws of physics, anything that goes up must come down in sometime. This applies to bullet fired into the air as well. When a bullet is fired into the air, it travels at a fast speed as it was intended to do so, but due to the pull of gravity, the bullet slows down gradually and its velocity becomes zero. Then it starts the descending process and falls at a different manner as compared to the straight way it went up. Depending on the direction of the wind and other natural factors, the bullet could spin or tumble down in a much lower speed but still fast enough to injure or kill someone on its path.

There have been many cases where people have died due to falling bullets fired into the air, during celebration time of any event. Inspite of such danger of someone getting killed by stray bullets fired into the air, the government of the world still allow such practise to be carried out.
